Google voted top employer brand in the UK
Google is the UK’s best place to work based on employee feedback, according to the 6th annual Best Places to Work list by job site Glassdoor.
The tech giant, which is up from 13th place last year, was lauded for its culture. One employee remarked: “Genuinely passionate, smart, friendly people. Interesting problems to solve and extremely collaborative culture”.
Glassdoor president Christian Sutherland-Wong said: “This year marks the shift to a culture-first decade in the workplace. [The] winners are prioritising their culture and mission and putting employees at the heart of everything they do. In turn, their employees have recognised them as truly the best places to work in 2020.”
Other tech brands Microsoft and Apple were in seventh, up from 11th last year, and 32nd up from 43rd last year, respectively.
Software consultancy Equal Experts made its first appearance on the list, straight in at number two, as did IT infrastructure specialist Softcat, which came in at fifth.
Other top employers included CRM software firm Salesforce in third place, up from fifth in 2019, and insurance provider Hiscox in fourth place, up from seventh. Meanwhile, last year’s leader, Anglian Water, was notable by its absence from the list, as was Sky Betting and Gaming, which came in at number six last year.
“This year’s winners stand out for providing exceptional career growth opportunities and encouraging work which is driven by impact and purpose,” Sutherland-Wong added. “Congratulations to all of the companies this year who stand out in the eyes of their employees.”
