M – N Associates updates famous Vietnamese ceramic art museum
The Bát Tràng Museum, formerly known as Hồn Đất Việt (Viet's Ceramic Soul), hosts the legacy of Vũ Đức Thắng, a local who shot to fame for his skills in engraving, embossing, enamelling and glazing ceramics. Located within Bát Tràng Village in Hanoi, the museum sought the help of Ho Chi Minh City-based M – N Associates in order to undergo a total rebrand.
Along with crafting a new name, the design agency also created a new typeface, MN Vũ Thắng. Incorporating ‘pottery-shoes-soul’ inktrap touches, the typeface is influenced by the work of Vũ Đức Thắng, who is famed for producing 12 pottery boots which earned him a Guinness World Record.
Elsewhere, a simplified colour palette was implemented into the brand which aims to reflect the vividness and authenticity of the art housed in the Bát Tràng Museum. While big changes were required, M – N Associates was careful to preserve its rich history, as demonstrated by how the brand’s visual system resonates with the variety of art.
