Global design agency Pentagram has launched a visual identity for Sister, the brand new technology, science and community hub in the UK’s second city. The ambitious development, the result of a partnership between The University of Manchester and Bruntwood SciTech, is set to feature labs, restaurants, shops and an arts centre, all designed to bring in people of all interests and cultures. At the core of its design identity is the scientific and educational heritage of Manchester. The originally designed logo typeface, Sister Mono, inspired by the letterforms from early code-breaking machines used by Alan Turing in the 1940s, is both versatile and innovative.
